Swing Trading Journal
Plan, document, and review trades that remain open beyond one trading session or across multiple days. Keep your swing trade journal grounded in your plan, recorded execution, and the evidence behind each decision.
Record Swing Trades Across Multiple Days
Select Swing Trade manually to describe your approach. Day Trade, Swing Trade, and Scalp are user-selected approaches, not automatically enforced duration categories. TradersMill does not automatically detect swing trades.
Record opening and closing dates and times across multiple calendar days. Positions can remain open across days, with planned and actual entry, exit, stop, target, quantity, long/short direction, and a configurable multiplier kept in the trade record.
General analytics can display Average Hold Time to help review how long completed trades were held. Accurate duration depends on available, valid open/close timestamps; this is not specialized swing analytics or comprehensive holding-period analysis.
For intraday trades and scalping, explore our Day trading journal.
Plan Entries, Stops and Targets
Save a pending trade before entry with your planned entry, stop, target, quantity, strategy/setup, and thesis. Use the trade status to follow the idea from preparation to an open or completed record.
Pending trade planning, general calculated risk/reward, and a basic checklist are included in Essential and above. Risk/reward uses the recorded entry, stop, target, quantity, and applicable instrument values.
Document Higher-Timeframe Context and Your Thesis
Choose timeframe labels such as Daily, 4H, 1H, Weekly, Monthly, and others. Document your higher-timeframe context, what supports your thesis, and why you intend to hold beyond one session.
Add entry reasons, notes, and screenshots to preserve what you observed. Later, review whether your decisions aligned with the original thesis. This is your documented analysis: TradersMill does not automatically detect trends, identify support/resistance, perform technical analysis, validate a thesis, analyze overnight gaps, or monitor live markets.
Compare Your Plan With Recorded Execution
Compare planned and actual entry with the recorded exit, stop, target, and entry/exit reasons. Keep notes about decisions made while the trade was open and use screenshots to revisit the evidence.
The standard trade record has one actual entry, one exit, and one quantity. It does not provide structured manual scaling in or out, multiple-entry/multiple-exit accounting, partial-close management, linked legs, or rolling-position management.
Explore the TradersMill journalRecord Trading Costs and Understand Their Limits
Record commissions and other known fees, with generic adjustments where applicable. Check prices, quantity, and multiplier against your source records. Calculated net results account for known costs and recorded adjustments; missing cost information can leave results unavailable.
Supported imported accounting can represent supplied swap, financing, and borrow fees. This does not establish automatic overnight-cost accrual or universal import coverage.
Do not rely on the journal for automatic overnight financing, swap/rollover, margin interest, borrow or hard-to-borrow fees, funding rates, dividends, distributions, corporate actions, splits, option expiration, futures rollover, or gap-risk calculations. Document relevant context manually where appropriate; generic notes are not structured accounting.
Review Screenshots, Strategies and Lessons
Use the daily journal, weekly review, and performance calendar to revisit your strategy/setup, emotions, mistake tags, exit reasons, and lessons. These review tools are included in Essential and above.
Review screenshots from before entry, during trade, and after exit. Screenshot limits are 3 per trade on Essential, 10 per trade on Professional, and unlimited on Elite.
Advanced checklists, advanced analytics, Trade Replay, Setup Playbook, and setup analytics and grading require Professional or Elite. View Plans for feature access.
Trade Replay reviews stored trade evidence from planning through lessons; it is not historical market playback.

Journal swing trades across TradersMill’s supported markets: Stocks, Options, Futures, Forex, and Crypto. Calculations, costs, and market mechanics differ across asset classes. For more market context, explore the Stock trading journal or Options trading journal.
Import completed swing trade records through supported CSV/file import workflows, subject to the supported format and available trade data.
Imports do not imply automatic Swing Trade classification, arbitrary CSV compatibility, automatic broker sync, imported planning fields, or universal overnight-cost coverage. Review the available timestamps, prices, quantity, multiplier, and costs against your source records.
