Day Trading Journal for Planning, Execution Records and Review

Prepare a trade plan, record what happened, and review the decisions behind each result. Keep the evidence together to identify changes to your next trading session.

Plan Your Day Trades Before Entry

Use pending trade planning to capture your planned entry, stop and target, quantity, strategy or setup, and thesis. Calculated risk/reward uses the recorded trade inputs; a basic checklist helps you review your preparation.

Keep ideas in watching, planning, ready, or triggered states as your plan develops. These are journal states you maintain, not broker orders.

Manual journaling, pending planning, basic checklists, and supported imports are included in Essential and above.

Record Intraday Entries, Exits and Trading Costs

Record long and short trades with actual entry and exit prices, opening and closing timestamps, quantity, commissions, and known fees. Same-day timestamps preserve the timing of an intraday trade.

Select Day Trade (day_trade) or Scalp (scalp) and an intraday timeframe such as 1m, 5m, or 15m. Add entry and exit reasons, notes, and screenshots to explain your decisions. Screenshot capacity depends on your plan.

Missing costs should not be treated as zero. Calculated net results depend on available cost data; check recorded performance against your source records.

Import completed day trades through supported CSV/file import workflows, subject to the supported format and available trade data.

Document Market Context and Opening-Session Observations

Record your market/session context and timeframe alongside the trade. Use the thesis and notes to describe opening-session observations, the setup you were watching, and the conditions behind your entry.

This context comes from your observations. TradersMill does not automatically detect sessions or supply live market data.

Compare Your Plan With Recorded Execution

Compare the planned entry with the actual entry you recorded. Revisit your stop, target, thesis, and entry and exit reasons, then use screenshots and notes to explain deviations from the plan.

Planned and actual entry information supports decision-quality trade review, not complete broker-level fill accounting or automatic fill analysis. TradersMill records your trading decisions; it does not execute broker orders.

Review Each Trading Day and Week

Use the daily journal to review your preparation and decisions, the performance calendar to revisit recorded trading days, and weekly review to connect lessons across sessions. Daily journaling, weekly review, and the performance calendar are included in Essential and above.

Trade Replay reviews stored trade evidence; it is not historical market playback. Trade Replay requires Professional or Elite.

Study Setups, Mistakes and Lessons for Your Next Session

Keep strategy/setup details, emotions, mistake tags, and lessons with the trade. Review execution discipline by asking whether your recorded decisions followed the plan, what changed, and what you want to practice next.

Advanced analytics and checklists, Setup Playbook, and setup analytics and grading require Professional or Elite. Use recorded performance by strategy and setup to inform your review. View Plans.

Reflection can identify changes to practice. TradersMill does not automatically enforce discipline or guarantee improvement or profitability.

Journal Day Trades Across Markets

Record day trades across Futures, Forex, Stocks, Options, and Crypto using the relevant trade fields. Contract and calculation behavior differs by asset class: Futures can use tick economics, while generic calculations use directional price difference, quantity, and multiplier. Day Trading uses the existing calculation behavior, not a separate calculation engine.

For market-specific recording guidance, explore the Futures trading journal, Forex trading journal, Stock trading journal, and Crypto trading journal.

Do not assume automatic Forex currency conversion, Options multi-leg accounting, scale-out accounting, or automatic cost-basis accounting. Read the trading risk disclaimer and verify inputs against your records.

Start with one day trade: save the plan, record execution, review the evidence, and write a lesson for your next session.
