Stock trading journal software for share quantities, trade plans, and review
Keep ticker symbols, planned and actual execution, share quantity, trading costs, and decision notes together. Build a record that explains both the trade and the thinking behind it.
What to record in a stock trading journal
A ticker and a profit or loss do not explain the decision. Record the details that let you compare your plan with the completed trade.
Use this checklist as a starting point:
- Ticker symbol, long or short direction, share quantity, and account.
- Planned and actual entry, exit price and times, stop, and target.
- Timeframe, recorded market or session context, commissions, and other known fees.
- Strategy, setup, thesis, entry and exit reasons, and emotional state.
- Screenshots, notes, and a lesson to carry into the next review.
Keep share quantity, execution prices, and costs in context
Record the share quantity shown in your source record, including a fractional quantity where appropriate. TradersMill keeps one quantity, one actual entry, and one exit price for each trade; it does not provide automatic scale-out, partial-exit, or general multi-leg position accounting.
Compare the planned entry with the actual fill and record the stop and target you intended to use. A short direction records how you traded the idea; it does not check share availability or locate a borrow.
Review known costs without filling in the gaps
Record commissions and other known fees. Missing commissions, fees, or adjustments are incomplete evidence and may leave a calculated net result unavailable; missing costs should not be treated as zero.
TradersMill does not provide automatic cost-basis or portfolio accounting, tax reporting, dividend accounting, stock-split processing, or corporate-action handling. Read the trading risk disclaimer.
Capture the opening session and your reason for entry
Use pending-trade planning to record the ticker, timeframe, intended entry, stop, target, strategy or setup, and thesis. Add what you observed around the opening session, a gap, an earnings event, or extended-hours trading as your own market or session context.
Those observations are journal evidence you supply. TradersMill does not automatically detect earnings, gaps, liquidity, extended-hours conditions, or real-time exchange status, and it does not supply real-time stock market data.

Before: record the thesis, planned entry, invalidation, and session context.
- 02
During: preserve screenshots and note changes to the plan or emotional state.
- 03
After: add the exit reason and one lesson from the execution.
Review day trades and swing trades against the original plan
Compare the planned entry, stop, and target with the execution you recorded. Screenshots, entry and exit reasons, notes, emotions, and lessons help explain whether a day trade or swing trade followed its thesis. Daily journaling, weekly review, and the performance calendar are included in Essential.
Advanced analytics and checklists, Trade Replay, Setup Playbook, and setup analytics and grading require Professional or Elite. Trade Replay reviews recorded trade evidence; it does not imply historical market playback. Screenshot capacity also depends on your plan. View Plans.
Explore performance reviewQuestions for your next review
- Did the actual entry match the planned setup and thesis?
- Did the trade respect its stop or invalidation?
- Did the recorded share quantity and known costs match the source record?
- What decision should you repeat or change?
These prompts support your reflection; they are not claims of automated trade evaluation.
Import stock trades through supported CSV workflows
Start with manual entry or a supported CSV workflow. Universal CSV requires the documented TradersMill schema. Supported TradingView and TradeStation file workflows depend on the specific export and available evidence; an arbitrary broker CSV is not automatically understood.
Automatic broker sync is not currently available. Broker Auto Sync is Coming Soon.
Check imported evidence before review
Confirm the ticker, direction, share quantity, entry and exit details, timestamps, and available costs against the source report. Then add screenshots and decision notes that an execution file cannot explain.
Visit Support or Contact Us if you need help checking an import path.
Stock trading journal questions
Can I record fractional share quantities?
Yes. Quantity supports fractional values. Record the quantity shown in your source record and check it before reviewing calculated results.
Can I journal short stock trades?
Yes. You can record a long or short direction. The journal does not check borrow availability.
Can I track partial exits or corporate actions?
The current trade record uses one quantity, one actual entry, and one exit price. It does not provide automatic partial-exit or multi-leg position accounting, cost-basis accounting, dividend accounting, split processing, or other corporate-action handling.
Do I need a broker connection?
No. Enter trades manually or use a supported CSV workflow. Automatic broker sync is not currently available.
Can I keep screenshots and notes with a trade?
Yes. Keep screenshots, notes, emotions, and lessons with your recorded evidence. Screenshot capacity depends on your plan.
Where can I read about data privacy?
Read the Privacy Policy for information about how TradersMill handles your data.
